Summary:The aim of this paper is to make known the importance of the practical component within a career such as engineering and to present to the community an alternative that serves as part of a perfectly applicable educational environment. To do this, STEM education (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) is introduced, which is an emerging trend and seeks modular, adaptable and easy-to-use tools that help the student in the practical teaching process. In this particular case, the platform granted by the Arduino microcontroller has been chosen as an instrument, due to the large community and existing open hardware movement. El objetivo de este documento es dar a conocer la importancia del componente práctico dentro de una carrera como es la de ingeniería y presentar a la comunidad una alternativa que sirva como parte de un entorno educativo perfectamente aplicable. Para ello, se introduce la educación STEM (Ciencia, Tecnología, Ingeniería y Matemáticas) que se trata, de una tendencia emergente que busca herramientas modulares, adaptables y fáciles de usar, que ayudan al estudiante en el proceso de la enseñanza práctica. En este caso particular, se ha elegido como aplicativo, la plataforma Arduino, debido a su gran comunidad y movimiento de hardware libre existente.
