Summary:The sustainable development goals of Agenda 2030 closely challenge educational professions in their contribution to the development of sustainable lifestyles, the promotion of human rights, gender equality, a culture of peace and non-violence, and an idea of global citizenship based on the appreciation of diversity. Sustainable education represents the essential medium for learning and developing different ways of looking at and acting in the world. Therefore, a necessary action of trans-formation of both systems and education professionals is configured in order to act in contexts as active agents of change, capable of orienting and supporting the transition towards just, equitable and interconnected lifestyles and relationships. The contribution presents a reasoned examination starting from the most recent documentary sources and indications at national and European level
