Description
Summary:We have studied temperature dependence of Brillouin frequency shift in bend-insensitive optical fibers of ITU-T G657.A1 category. Brillouin frequency shift in the optical fiber was made to represent the distributed temperature variation by maintaining the strain free environment. Several experiments were carried out for studying the effect of temperature on the Brillouin frequency shift. The temperature was varied from -60 °C to +85 °C. Temperature coefficient was measured to be 1.07 MHz/°C. The temperature dependence of Brillouin frequency shift was found to be nearly linear in the temperature range under consideration and this study can be used for developing distributed temperature sensor.
