Description
Summary:Previously abstracted from original as item 9202-56-0194. Various quench and aging heat treatments were used on KhN35VTYu (EI787) alloy to determine their effects on mechanical properties and impact resistance at low temperatures down to --253 deg c. Heating to 1050 deg C and holding for 3 h, air quenching and aging at 700 deg c for 3-8 h with subsequent air cooling resulted in the highest values of strength and impact resistance at room temperature and cryogenic temperatures. The alloy was insensitive to stress concentrations. Raising the quench temperature to 1200 deg C resulted in a significant reduction in strength and impact resistance and reduction in area. Raising the aging temperature from 700 to 750 deg C increased strength and lowered ductility and impact resistance sharply at low temperatures.
