Description
Summary:Coal-bed methane cores can be reheated to downhole temperatures, using a temperature-compensated gas-measurement technique, facilitating more-accurate gas measurements. The true volume and nature of gas can be recorded with the cores at bottom hole pressure temperature. The procedure helps predict coal-bed gas reserves with improved accuracy. The cooling effects on the gas and mud in the core can be reversed by increasing the temperature of the core barrel and its contents at the surface. Reheating causes the volume of mud and gas inside the sealed barrel to expand to bottom-hole levels. The successful application of the reheating equipment in a field trial in the San Juan Basin is reported.
