Summary: | The persistence of a single intravenous injection of TMV in the mouse has been investigated by two independent methods which are free of many ambiguities.
P32 labeled TMV has been isolated from liver extracts 9 days after intravenous injection by means of specific precipitation with rabbit antiserum to TMV.
Direct observation of liver extracts in the electron microscope has revealed the presence of particles strikingly similar in size and shape to TMV through 15 days after intravenous injection.
It is evident that the mouse cannot rapidly dispose of a 2 mg intravenous dose of TMV.
These results suggest that the presence of antigen is a prerequisite for antibody formation. |
