Summary:	This paper presents the concept of efficiency mapping applied to large hydro synchronous generators and a suitable methodology for obtaining it. Loss segregation tests at rated conditions are needed. Model variations for losses throughout all the operating area inside the capability chart are presented. The methodology is applied to two existent synchronous generators, thus validating the proposed method.
