Using side scan sonar in the characterization of the continental shelf: Touros area

This paper presents a sonographic mapping of an area of the Brazilian continental shelf adjacent to Touros city-RN, NE Brazil. Data were acquired in lines parallel to the coast line, with a total area of 58 km 2 . The equipment used was Side Scan Sonar 272 - TD, operated both with frequency of 100 k...

Description
Summary:This paper presents a sonographic mapping of an area of the Brazilian continental shelf adjacent to Touros city-RN, NE Brazil. Data were acquired in lines parallel to the coast line, with a total area of 58 km 2 . The equipment used was Side Scan Sonar 272 - TD, operated both with frequency of 100 kHz. As a result was possible to correlate clearly the sonar data with the satellite image and identify different reflection patterns.
