Summary: | Amoxycillin, a new semi-synthetic penicillin, has an antibacterial activity similar to that of ampicillin, and its absorption is nearly two times higher than that of the latter. The present authors have applied amoxycillin clinically, and the results were obtained as follows : 1. Antibacterial activity The sensitivity of amoxycillin was measured by means of ampicillin disc on 14 strains in all including 7 strains of E. coil, 2 strains of Staph. aureus, 2 strains of Staph. epidermidis, and each 1 strain of Klebsiella, Strept. faecalis and Streptococcus. All the strains were sensitive to the antibiotic, except only 1 strain of E. coli exhibited resistance. 2. Clinical result Out of 7 cases of the infection in the obstetrics, the results obtained were effective in 6 cases and slightly effective in 1 case, and out of 7 cases of the infection of urinary tract, they were effective in 5 cases and slightly effective in 2 cases, but the result remained ineffective in 1 case of pelvic peritonitis after abortion. As to the side effects of amoxycillin, there observed no adverse ones such as allergy and abnormal fluctuation of clinical test values, except a slight diarrhea was noticed in 2 cases of urinary tract infection. |
