Description
Summary:In Brazil, the frequency and intensity of natural disasters have been increased, being infrastructure and transport the most affected. This work analysis the relationship between national highway network, natural disasters susceptibility areas and a multi-institutional network for meteorological monitoring in Brazil. This relationship is used to propose a new vulnerability index based on coverage distance metrics processed using Geographical Databases. Based on proposed index, results show that 26 parts of national highway network are close to susceptibility areas without any coverage of tools, which are able to monitor extreme weather events in real time. This lack of coverage make hard for authorities to send early warnings which are very important to avoid economic losses in transport.
